The Bible contains ghost stories. One of the lesser discussed ghost stories occurs in The Gospel of Mark. The story is so striking that the gospels of Matthew and Luke re-tell it, which is what usually happens with a good scary story. One of the troubling tensions in the story is Jesus' disciples who see the ghost and cry out in terror. Readers have to grapple with not only the theological failure of the disciples panicking over what many Christians don't believe exist. What's even more troubling is what the ghost turns out to be, what it tells us about ourselves, and what means for those who choose to follow the way of Jesus.
