CLEAN CONFERENCE 2025: Beauty from Ashes

September 26-28  & September 29-October 1 • Pleasant Valley Church

At the 2024 CLEAN Conference, we explored healing from within—uncovering the deeper stories, trauma, and patterns that shape our lives and addictions. This year, we journey further into that healing with CLEAN Conference 2025: Beauty from Ashes. Hosted at Pleasant Valley Church and grounded in Isaiah 61:3, this gathering holds sacred space for grief in all its forms—grief over what was lost, what was broken, and what never came to be. Addiction often leaves a trail of ashes, but Jesus meets us in those ashes with redemption, restoration, and resurrection. Whether you’re in recovery, walking through sorrow, or holding hope for someone you love, this conference is for you. Come experience beauty rising where you least expect it.

This year at the CLEAN Conference, we’re offering FREE Pure Desire Group Leader Training to equip you for leading others into lasting healing. From Monday, Sept 29 – Tuesday, Sept 30, you’ll walk through the official Group Leader curriculum—perfect for anyone starting or strengthening recovery groups in your church or community. Then on Wednesday, Oct 1, join us for an extended live Q&A with Rich Moore and Heather Kolb, diving deeper into the neuroscience, theology, and heart of recovery ministry. Whether you’re a seasoned leader or just getting started, this is your moment to be trained, empowered, and connected.

*Childcare is offered Friday night, Sabbath afternoon, and Sunday morning.
*Sabbath Lunch is provided for attendees who register.

OCTOBER IS PASTOR APPRECIATION MONTH

We're celebrating our amazing pastors on October 11

PVC’s Team of Elders are putting details in place for our Pastor Appreciation Sabbath on October 11. We need your help to show our Pastoral team of Kessia Reyne, Greg, Tyler and Hannah some extra love.

Because last year’s event was such a hit, we’re asking the congregation to again bring gift cards to your favorite restaurants, grocery stores, activities, fun locations, or even Amazon. We'll divide these between our 4 pastors and present our gifts of appreciation to them on October 11.

So, for the next 4 Sabbaths (9/13, 9/20, 9/27 & 10/4), you can turn in your purchased gift cards in an envelope marked with 'Pastor Appreciation Gift' into the locked offering boxes (sanctuary and foyer) OR into one of the designated large collection envelopes. There will also be ‘heart cards’ for you to write a note of thanks/appreciation for each of our pastors being passed out in Sabbath School. These ‘heart cards’ can be turned in just the same way as your gift cards. The heart cards will then be displayed on pastor appreciation Sabbath.
Let's join together to show appreciation for our amazing pastors!

Alberta Street Gallery, 1829 NE Alberta Street, Portland

PVC's own Mark Bishop is having an exhibit of his art at the Alberta Street Gallery through September 21. We invite you to drop by and show your support!

MONTHLY SENIOR MINISTRY GET TOGETHER

October 1 at 10:00 am

Get together with PVC seniors for a morning hangout in the church fellowship hall. We'll provide coffee, tea, and goodies. You provide a smile and a friendly spirit! You're welcome to just relax and visit with friends, or bring your favorite puzzle or game and invite others to join in. These monthly events are meant to be a regular time of connection with your spiritual community.

BABIES!

PVC's Newest Additions

We’re celebrating with the Pasikatan & Manns families as they recently welcomed new members to their families:

Josriel & Krista Pasikatan welcomed baby boy Niko Julian on July 29!
Jared & Annelise welcomed baby boy Bennett Jared Manns on August 11. You can bless the Mannses with a meal!

SHARING THE GIFT OF SIGHT

A Collaborative Effort with Global Eyeglass Ministry PDX

Some PVC members are partnering with the Global Eyeglass Ministry (GEMPDX) to support three vision clinics in Uganda in October, 2025. Christian volunteers at these clinics provide cataract surgeries, vision screenings, and match patients with donated prescription glasses, and “readers”.

If you have old prescription glasses, or readers, that you would be willing to part with, there is a special box on the front Reception Desk at church. Please clean the glasses, and deposit them in the box. We will make sure that they get to our brothers & sisters at GEMPDX.

Thank you. ~ Ed Hoover & Lori Rose

SPIRITUAL COMPANIONSHIP

micro-groups

Faith was never meant to be a solo journey, and every single one of us needs an earthly friend as a companion in the light.  Consider joining or starting a "micro-group": a group of 2-4 people living in the light together, practicing reading Scripture, prayer, and honesty, and meeting once a week.

You can choose your own group members. If you want to join a group and have no one to invite, we can try to link you up with an existing group or someone else looking for a partner. Visit pvclife.com/groups for more information.

THE JOURNEY TO WHOLENESS - Christ-centered Twelve Step Recovery

Thursdays at 7:00pm • Pleasant Valley Church Youth Room (Rm 5)

Are you looking for more support in your journey to living free? Maybe you're working through the process of reckoning and release that we've been talking about in our Unburdened series and the Releasing Bitterness seminar. Perhaps you've lost a loved one through death or divorce, and you'd like support in your journey. Or maybe you've been wrestling with an unhealthy dependency upon substances or other destructive behaviors. Did you know that PVC has a weekly 12-step recovery group meeting called Journey to Wholeness?

Journey to Wholeness is a support system for people of any faith (or lack thereof) who are struggling with things that are hurting them or the people they love. It presents a 12-step model for understanding God and ourselves as God’s creation.

Come on Thursday nights at 7:00 PM and you'll find a safe and anonymous group of individuals who are committed to health, healing, sanity, and serenity. We hope you'll join us on the Journey to Wholeness!

PRAYER WARRIORS:

Join us Sabbath Mornings at 8:30 am in Room 7

Prayer Warriors support the church through prayer, interceding, or earnestly asking for God's will to be done, for others. If you are interested in being a part of the Prayer Warriors group, please contact the church office.

Sexual Integrity 101

Coming Fall, 2025

PVC will be hosting a series of mid-week conversations around God’s vision for sexuality called Sexual Integrity 101, and we look forward to having you in the room with us. We all desire sexual integrity for ourselves and for others, but often struggle to know where to start, and that’s what this is for. We are learning to live as people who are free — so keep your eyes out for more information coming soo for Sexual Integrity 101 this Fall.

SI-101 is a forum for learning and everyone is welcome. Parents, partners, singles, teachers, leaders, and Christians of all life stages will benefit, and even those who personally want freedom from the effects of unwanted sexual behavior and betrayal.

MEAL TRAIN FOR THE BARRON FAMILY

Sarah’s mom Rose had major surgery last week to treat her cancer and is back home with Sarah & Juan. They are still adjusting to life with baby Risa and have loved having your support through meals! We are asking for your prayers/food deliveries/meal funds during this busy time as they support Rose through her recovery!
